5 Things to Do When You’re Feeling Uninspired
For the last few weeks I just haven’t been feeling creative at all so I wanted to share 5 things to do when you’re feeling uninspired.
I had been on a roll with content creation, and was really inspired and motivated. Lately though, I just haven’t had a desire to create. In one of my previous posts, I talked about not comparing yourself to others. I started doing the very thing I told you guys not to do, but I forced myself to snap out of it. Instead of dwelling on things I can’t control, I decided to take action instead. Here are the 5 things that snapped me out of my funk:
1. Take a Break
When it comes to creativity, you can’t really half-ass it. I’ve found that when I try to force it, I just become more uninspired. Remind yourself that it’s ok to take a break-whether it be a few hours, a few days or a few weeks. Stepping away will usually give you a new perspective, and you will usually end up coming back to the task at hand feeling refreshed. I would rather just not put out any content if it’s going to be mediocre or uninspired.
2. Create Just to Create
It’s all fun and games being creative when it’s just a hobby, but sometimes when you’re being creative as a side hustle or job it takes some of the fun out of it. If you find yourself less than inspired, try creating something just for the fun of it. Remind yourself why you love doing what you do without all of the added pressure. Go take some photos, write in a journal or work on a diy project-anything that makes you feel creative. You might just find that putting the fun back into it will help you get your groove back!
3. Go Somewhere that Inspires You
I love using fun and unique locations for the settings of my content. I noticed that I tend to become uninspired when I don’t go anywhere fun or interesting on my days off. Try a new location, a new prop, even try doing your work at a cute coffee shop. Getting outside is my solution to most problems, and this is no exception. It’s so much easier to create when you’re in an inspiring setting.
4. Don’t Give Up
Even when I’m not as inspired or as motivated as I usually am, I always keep going. I know that eventually my momentum will pick up again, so I don’t want to lose everything I’ve worked for just because I’m having a few off days. If I commit to posting a certain times a week on Instagram or my blog, I make sure to stick with it. Being consistent isn’t super exciting, but it’s the best way to grow. As creatives, I think consistency is something we all struggle with, but it’s so important if you’re building a business.
5. Remind Yourself of Your Why
In my post about balancing a family and side hustle I mentioned the importance of finding something you’re truly passionate about. If you are unsure of what your why is, it’s SO much harder to stay motivated. Your why should be something that fulfills you and fills your work with passion. It should be something that you’re so inspired by that people can hear the passion in your voice when you talk about it. Taking some time to remind yourself why you do the work that you do will definitely get your head back in the game.
I hope these tips were helpful for anyone who is feeling uninspired! Also if anyone is wondering my floral dress and skirt are both from Yumi London. The dress can be purchased here and my floral skirt can be purchased here!

This was so helpful today. I am in sort of a funk today, and I think it’s because I’ve been comparing myself to other bloggers. Also, beautiful pictures.

I feel like #5 is essential to ANYTHING in life that you lack motivation. Laundry, budgets, parenting, anything. The why is so so important!

This list is perfect! I definitely do 2 & 3 the most. I think focusing on something else creative gives me a different perspective on what I was struggling with before. Taking a break and walking away is definitely the hardest though!
admin
Thank you so much! Agreed! It definitely is but it makes such a big difference when you step away!

I found you on Pinterest and I am glad I did! This list is very good and a nice place to start whenever the doldrums for not being inspired hits. I create content for the fun of it and it is better that way. There’s no pressure and you are doing it for you. I also take time in between each posting to give myself a break because writing isn’t something that just comes to me. I need to sit down, really sit down to think of how I want to say things and how I want it to come across. I hope you are having a great weekend!

Thanks so much for your sweet comment Maureen! I’m glad you found me too! I completely agree that it’s important to create content for fun. Sometimes I get in the zone and do several posts in one day, but breaks are definitely necessary as well! Hope you have a great weekend 🙂
